Ecce Homo of Ziedaar de mens - Ecce Homo or to behold the man

10th of June 2016 until the 17th of January 2017 – Museum M in Leuven, Belgium.

Suffering is of all times. Only the representation changes. For Museum M in Leuven, Lieve Blancquaert made the exhibition Ecce Homo or Ziedaar de mens in 2016. She sought to connect to the age-old tradition of depicting suffering. She drew inspiration from the M collection and placed her own photos in the middle of it. This created an interesting interaction between her work and M's centuries-old collection pieces.

A video about a woman who lost her child in war, a photo series in an emergency department, a triptych of a family in a refugee camp or images that shed a light on poverty interact with pietas and crucifixes.

"The normally frozen and absent-minded madonnas suddenly stood closer. They seemed awake, and almost of flesh and blood."
